Bone cancer symptoms may vary and it base on the cancer’s location and stage. Extremities pain is one of the cancer sign and it will get worse after long periods of exertion such as jogging or walking. This type of pain occurs if the bone cancer is located in the lower extremities.
Once the tumor grows and going advance, pain will be noticeable more often until it becomes a constant pain. Below are five types of bone cancer signs,
1. Bone pain
Pain that located where the tumor grows is the most common symptoms of bone cancer. The pain often gets worse at night with a dull feeling when the muscles are relaxed. There may also be tenderness and swelling in the area. The bone secondary cancer may onset in several different locations at the same time, usually only one or two areas are painful.
2. Mass or lump on the bone
A mass or lump may be appears either in the muscle surrounding the bone or on the bone it self. This is lump most common with fibrosarcoma or MFH but also may occur with other type of bone tumors.
3. Weakened bones and fractures
The cancer can make the bone become weakened and it may cause a bone fracture. This can occur with both malignant and benign tumors. Even benign tumors can spread locally and weaken the surrounding bone. In many case, a person with bone cancer is unaware they have cancer until they feel a sharp pain from a fracture.
4. Raised calcium level
As the cancer is going advance, it may cause the increased of calcium releasing into the blood. The raised level of calcium in the blood is called hypercalcaemia.
5. Advanced bone cancer symptoms
If the tumor grows and compresses the surrounding nerve it can numbness, tingling or cause pain in the extremities. Night sweats, fever, and weight loss may occur but are less common. These signs are more common after the cancer is metastasized to other organs or tissues in the body.
